Precision Optics Giant Completes First M&A Of 2025!

Recently, the world's leading optical components manufacturer learn (Edmund Optics) official announcement, the company acquired ultrasonic assist systems and high-precision optics manufacturer son-x.
Edmund Optics as a leader in optical technology solutions, since its inception in 1942 has been serving the life sciences, biomedical, industrial inspection, semiconductor, laser processing and other major fields. The company employs more than 1,250 people in 18 locations worldwide and continues to expand.

Edmund Optics global manufacturing sites are known to produce more than 2 million optical components and complete 170,000 assemblies annually. Its products cover all types of precision optical components, imaging systems and opto-mechanical devices, with volume production capabilities for both standard and customized products, and a large in-stock inventory of more than 34,000 unique optical components.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Aachen, Germany, son-x is a subsidiary incubated at the Fraunhofer Institute and focuses on ultra-precision manufacturing, with its main products including metal mirrors for use in semiconductors, satellites and defense.
son-x has state-of-the-art production facilities equipped with ultra-precision machinery, optical measurement technology and clean room environments. The company offers production of infrared optical components in quantities ranging from one-off production of prototypes to volume production of thousands of products per year.
For Edmund Optics, this acquisition further enhances the company's diamond turning capabilities. By combining the expertise and resources of son-x, Edmund Optics has developed pioneering ultrasonic-assisted diamond turning technology and redefined global precision optics production, and is now able to offer multi-axis machining (up to 5-axis) of highly complex surfaces ranging from 1mm to 1 meter.
