Recently, the 14th International Conference on Laser-Particle Interactions (LIP2024) was held in Xi'an and synchronized online. The conference was organized by the School of Physics, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology (XUET), and co-organized by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange. More than 150 participants from 12 countries and regions, including the United States, France, Russia, etc., were invited to the conference, including more than 40 overseas experts invited to attend the conference, as well as specially invited representatives of domestic experts from more than 10 domestic universities and research institutes, including Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Xi'an Institute of Optical Precision and Mechanical Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and so on. All the leadership team of the School of Physics, representatives of professors, teachers and students attended the meeting.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Guo Lixin, the conference chairman, and Prof. Gerard Gouesbet, the initiator of the LIP conference, delivered speeches, and Prof. Zhou Huixin, the vice dean of the School of Physics, presided over the opening ceremony.
Lixin Guo said that LIP has been committed to promoting cutting-edge research and scientific exchanges in the field of laser-particle interactions from theory to practical applications for many years, and is an influential international academic conference in this field. The conference was successfully held in Xi'an with the support of the School of Physics and the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology (XUET), and attracted the participation of many young scholars and researchers from developing countries, which has injected fresh vitality into the continuous development of the conference. This international conference will further deepen international exchanges and cooperation in this field, promote the cultivation of innovative talents, and play an important role in improving the overall scientific research level in this field.
Gerard Gouesbet firstly thanked Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology (XUEST) and other organizations for their strong support for the organization of this conference, and reviewed the history of the International Conference on Laser-Particle Interactions (LIP) since its inception in 1987. He mentioned that the choice of Xi'an for the 14th LIP can attract more Asian researchers, especially young scholars, to a greater extent. It is hoped that this conference will continue to build international bridges and promote the continuous improvement of scientific research in the field of laser-small particle interactions.
The closing ceremony was chaired by Prof. Yiping Han, co-chair of the conference. Prof. Gerard Gouesbet, an overseas expert, delivered a speech to congratulate the conference on its success, and affirmed the important role of this conference in promoting the field of laser-particle interactions, and announced that the next conference will be held in Rouen, France.
Huang Junrong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physics, summarized his speech, saying that the convening of this annual conference will play a good role in promoting the construction of related disciplines in this field in the future, and will further promote the development of basic theory, key technology and application research and development in laser-particle interaction. The institute will take the success of this conference as a new starting point, continue to deepen international cooperation, promote the development of disciplines and talent training, and enhance the overall level and international influence of discipline construction.
The conference brought 48 wonderful oral reports and 24 posted reports. The atmosphere of the conference was warm, experts from many countries and regions at home and abroad expressed their opinions freely and exchanged views, and put forward many valuable academic views. Participating teachers and students actively participated in the conference to enhance academic exchanges and expand their horizons. A total of 72 submissions were accepted for this annual conference, the level of papers was further improved, and new technologies and concepts synchronized with the international advanced level were fully displayed and discussed.

It is reported that LIP2024 is a highly influential international conference in the field of laser interaction with small particles, and the theme of the conference centers on "Laser Interaction with Small Particles - Theory, Technology and Instrument Development". Since its inception in 1987, this conference has been successfully held in France, the United States, Germany, Japan, Poland, Austria and other places for 13 times. This is the 14th conference, which mainly focuses on laser modulation and its interaction with particles, including laser applications, scattering of small particles, mechanical effects of light, characterization of two-phase and multiphase flows, and measurement and characterization of particles.
