Syntec Optics Holdings, a leading provider of defense and aerospace OEM optics, made significant changes to its management on April 15, local time, with the aim of furthering the company's strategic growth plans, including potential external growth opportunities.
Founded more than 20 years ago and headquartered in Rochester, NY, Syntec Optics is one of the largest custom optics and photonics manufacturers in the United States, supporting scientific instrumentation, aerospace and defense applications. The company's state-of-the-art facilities are equipped with a broad range of core competencies in a variety of optical manufacturing processes, including horizontal and vertical integration, providing mission-critical OEM customers with a key competitive advantage.
As Syntec Optics Holdings realigns its executive team for strategic growth, the company's market capitalization stands at approximately $231.58 million, with a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 561.62 and a high price-to-book ratio of 23.12. The company continues to experience positive revenue growth, up 11.24% in the last quarter, demonstrating its ability to expand sales in a highly competitive environment in the optics and photonics market.
According to the latest appointment schedule, the company's management will see two key positions being reorganized:
(1) The Company has appointed Al Kapoor, the current Chairman of the Board, who will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer, responsible for the Company's overall strategy and potential M&A expansion plans.
He will bring a wealth of experience and vision to lead the Company into a new phase of growth, including working with a variety of service providers and exploring potential future complementary acquisition opportunities.Mr. Kapoor, who has previously served as President of the Company, will now expand his reach and leverage his extensive experience in the past with the successful completion of three acquisitions and their integration into Syntec Optics to create additional growth opportunities for the Company.
Al Kapoor's vision for the future of the optics and photonics industry builds on his more than 30 years of industry experience. His academic background, which includes an MBA from Harvard Business School and an M.S. in Engineering from Iowa State University, as well as participation in graduate programs in finance at Indiana University and computer-integrated manufacturing and robotics at the University of Cincinnati, provides him with a deep theoretical foundation and practical experience.
(2) Joe Mohr, former CEO, will transition to the role of Chief Manufacturing Officer (CMO) and will be responsible for Syntec Optics' sales, business development and revenue growth, as well as superior customer manufacturing services.
He has extensive experience in engineered and architectural optical products and has held a number of positions, most recently as CEO. This realignment of roles will allow Mr. Mohr to increase his focus on launching new products and delivering results to customers while expanding sales. Joe Mohr's 29 years of experience at Syntec Optics will provide him with the security that comes with increased demand for mission-critical products from a number of customers and increased concerns about supply stability.
With this realignment, Syntec Optics will be better organized to support new product launches and customer growth, and Mr. Mohr and Mr. Kapoor have worked together for more than 20 years in various roles to execute growth initiatives.
This executive change comes less than six months after Syntec became a publicly traded company. The move allows Joe Mohr to focus on manufacturing excellence and customer support, while Al Kapoor will focus on driving the company's other strategic initiatives, and together they will lead Syntec Optics into a new phase of growth.
New Products Abound
Syntec Optics has recently launched a number of new products covering a wide range of areas including Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite optics, lightweight night vision goggle optics, biomedical device optics, and precision microlens arrays.
On April 12, the company announced that it will initiate process development for a high-volume production line of disposable medical optics. After nearly three years of conceptualization and preparation, Syntec Optics has finally won a customer order and plans to install a fully automated, state-of-the-art production line for this innovative product.
We are proud to develop and supply the next generation of disposable optics for biomedical camera functionality, which will set a new benchmark for precision in the industry," said Louie Salinas, Project Manager at Syntec optics. We are confident that this development order will set a new standard for fully automated, high-volume production in the U.S. and support our efforts to stabilize our existing customer base. With Syntec's strengths in automated equipment for complex replica manufacturing, vertically integrated thin film coating facilities, and over 20 years of expertise, we are confident that we can provide our customers with superior solutions for mission critical optics."
Sara Hart, Director of Sales, is equally excited about this product upgrade, stating that innovative, high-performance camera systems featuring multiple angles, wider fields of view, and higher imaging detail place extreme demands on the accuracy of disposable optics. In addition, statistics show that the photonics biomedical market segment will potentially reach $201.1 billion by 2021.
Sara Hart also noted that the company has recently launched several new products for existing markets and customers, which are in high demand and continue to receive customer inquiries for quotes.
Frequent Orders Expand Customer Base
In addition to the medical optics orders mentioned above, Syntec Optics has also won orders in a number of applications.
On March 27th of this year, Syntec Optics announced a $2.8 million order for key components for the latest U.S. defense night vision goggles. The order continues a partnership that began in 2018 and involves the development and production of advanced night vision systems.Syntec Optics has been instrumental in supplying lightweight optics for these systems, which utilize a dual-tube, dual-eye design for enhanced situational awareness and depth perception. The goggles also incorporate a thermal imager to provide infrared capability.
Previously in mid-November 2023, Syntec Optics received two key first-day-on-market contracts for night vision goggle objectives and ultra-precision biomedical optics objectives. Earlier that month, Syntec Optics merged with OmniLit acquisition Corp, a special purpose acquisition company, to become a public company.
