Recently, the U.S. semiconductor equipment manufacturer MKS Instruments announced that its Ophir Photonics Darmstadt, Germany calibration laboratory has successfully obtained ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory international standard accreditation.
This accreditation recognizes the laboratory's compliance with the highest standards of quality, management and technical operations, and ensures that it meets the highest National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) accuracy levels. The scope of the accreditation covers MKS Ophir Photonics' photodiode, pyroelectric and thermopile laser power and energy sensors, as well as the corresponding power and energy displays and virtual meters.
This follows the successful accreditation of MKS Ophir's calibration laboratories in Jerusalem, Israel; Omiya-ku, Japan; and Darmstadt, Germany, to the international standard ISO/IEC 17025 for laboratories. This accreditation not only strengthens customers' trust in MKS' testing and calibration technology, but also generates a high level of confidence in its team of professionals. It ensures the validity of test methods and provides optimal traceability of measurement and calibration results to national standards.

Markus Schmiedt, Manager of Darmstadt's European Calibration Laboratory, said, "Customers in Europe are able to benefit from our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation because it shortens the time it takes to recalibrate their equipment. Their equipment no longer needs to be sent to an international laboratory for calibration. The calibration certificates issued by our European laboratories will automatically be accompanied by the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, providing them with greater convenience.
In accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, Ophir's calibration laboratory equipment and calibration standards must be regularly calibrated by other laboratories that are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and NIST traceable. This ensures that the measurements customers receive from Ophir have a solid foundation with uncertainty values based on rigorous experimental and statistical analysis.
