What Is Welded Seam

◆ Welded seam (weld）refers to, by high temperature of the welding heat source, to melt and connect the welding rod and the metal at the joint. After the weld metal is cooled, the two weldments are connected into a whole. According to the shape of the weld metal and the mutual position of the weldments, there are butt welds, fillet welds, plug welds and electric riveting. Butt welds are often used for the splicing of plate and section steel; fillet welds are often used for lap joints; plug welds and electric riveting are less used, and are only considered for reducing the lap length of weldments.

◆ According to the different forms of weld joints, it can be divided into five types: butt welds, fillet welds, plug welds, slot welds and end welds.

1) Butt weld. A weld between the groove surface of a weldment or between the groove surface of a part and the surface of another part.

2) Fillet weld. Welds welded along the intersection of two orthogonal or nearly orthogonal parts.

3) End welding seam. Form the weld formed by the end joint.

4) Plug the weld. The two parts are superimposed, one of which has a round hole, and the weld formed by welding the two plates in the round hole. Only the weld with a constant angle in the hole is not plug welded.

5) Slot welds. The two plates are superimposed, one of which has a long hole, and the weld of the two plates is welded in the long hole. Only the fillet weld is not slot welding.
