High Power Semiconductor Laser Welding Applications And Cases

With the development of laser processing technology, high-power, high-brightness semiconductor lasers have gradually emerged as a new generation of laser light sources along with fiber lasers, ultrafast lasers, disc lasers, etc., making many important applications possible.
Compared with other lasers, high-power semiconductor lasers have incomparable advantages, its structure occupies little space, simple structure, system stability, long service life; uniform energy distribution, high photoelectric conversion efficiency, high light absorption rate of metal materials and automation can be realized, etc., which has been widely used in the processing of metal materials.

High-power semiconductor lasers in welding applications
High-power semiconductor lasers have been widely used in metal welding because of their excellent performance. Because of its large spot, beam quality distribution uniformity and high absorption rate of metal materials, in the welding process of the molten pool stability, no spatter, weld surface smooth and beautiful for metal sheet welding, such as living hardware, mechanical products and automotive parts welding.
Laser spot welding, seam welding
Semiconductor laser spot welding process for heat conduction welding, by adjusting the laser power and radiation time to melt the metal material to achieve welding. Due to the uniform distribution of spot energy, the laser energy can be realized slowly down the gradient, so as to solve the spot welding weld ends appear by the pseudo-locked hole collapse caused by the porous loose problem.

Laser Continuous Welding
Semiconductor laser is able to form a keyhole effect in the continuous welding process, which has a strong penetration ability. In continuous heat conduction welding, the welding process is stable, the surface is smooth, the molding is beautiful, and the weld cross-section is semi-circular, which can realize the welding of sheet metal structures (butt welding, lap welding, fillet welding, etc.), and the width of the weld can be up to 3.5mm; in continuous deep fusion welding, the welding process is stable, no spatter, and the cross-section of the weld is in the form of a Y-shape. The post-weld strength can meet the requirements of workpiece use.

Dual beam laser welding
Semiconductor laser and single mode continuous fiber laser composite, through different laser energy ratio, to achieve different weld cross-section (semi-circular, V-shaped, U-shaped, Y-shaped), widely used in new energy power battery shell capping welding and filter packaging welding.

Semiconductor laser product advantages

  • The laser module is small in size, light in quality and simple in structure;
  • Stable laser system with long service life over 30,000h;
  • Uniform energy distribution;
  • Optical conversion efficiency up to 65%;
  • Shorter wavelength (915nm), metal materials have higher efficiency of light absorption under this wavelength.
