Fiber Laser in The Field of Laser Welding Applications

Laser has a variety of welding functions, such as spot welding, heat conduction welding, deep fusion welding and composite welding. Because of the many benefits of laser welding, and therefore almost all industries can be used, such as fast welding speed, short welding cycle, low heat input, small heat-affected zone, minimal deformation.

Fiber lasers have good beam quality and high continuous power, which makes them suitable for deep fusion welding and shallow heat conduction welding. Continuous lasers can deliver laser pulses through modulation, resulting in high peak power and low average power, suitable for welding requiring low heat input requirements. High-power lasers are able to increase the productivity of pulse welding due to their modulation frequency of up to 10,000 Hz. Fiber optic delivery allows the laser to be flexibly integrated into conventional pliers, vibration lenses, robots and remote welding systems. Regardless of the beam delivery method, fiber lasers offer unmatched performance. Typical spot welding applications include welding razor blades and hard drive flexes by relying on a vibrating lens to deliver the beam, thus taking full advantage of the fiber laser's pulsing capabilities.

The small spot size and long focal length of fiber lasers greatly increase the ability to laser weld over long distances. 1-2 meter working spacing increases the working area several times compared to conventional robots, and remote welding stations equipped with fiber lasers include door welding, multi-point welding, and lap welding of entire body frames. Other examples of fiber laser welding include full fusion welding of transmission components, deep fusion welding of thick steel plates for marine applications, welding of battery pack seals, high voltage seals and more.
