Enablence Technologies, a manufacturer of optical components, recently announced that it has signed a strategic agreement with Polar Semiconductor, a semiconductor manufacturer, to jointly develop and manufacture optical chips.
Through this partnership, Enablence will be able to utilize Polar's manufacturing processes and toolset in order to accelerate the development, manufacturing of new optical semiconductor products for leading transceiver customers worldwide.
In addition, the partnership will help Polar expand its footprint in the optoelectronics market, which the company views as a strategic growth area.
As part of its strategic growth plan, Enablence recently increased its product development efforts by introducing a new family of Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical devices to the market. At the same time, the company has made significant investments in key tool sets, including etch, lithography and deposition process technologies, with the aim of increasing its production of planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) to meet market demand.
Planar Lightwave Circuit technology (PLC) provides higher optical integration volumes in a smaller footprint, offering lower cost, lower power consumption and high capacity benefits for systems using WDM. With many new products being developed to further drive up growth opportunities in datacom, telecom, LiDAR and industrial automation, the partnership with Polar Semiconductor provides Enablence with a high quality, leading-edge toolset, proven manufacturing processes and capabilities to meet the new demands. For Polar Semiconductor, this partnership provides an opportunity to expand its footprint in the optoelectronics market, which is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
Rajesh Appat, Vice President of Technology Development at Polar Semiconductor, commented, "This partnership strengthens Polar Semiconductor's expansion into optoelectronics manufacturing, which we see as a strategic growth area. Our primary goal is to work closely with Enablence Technologies to help deliver best-in-class, high-quality optoelectronics products to the marketplace by applying our more than 60 years of proven expertise in technology and process development."
Todd Haugen, CEO of Enablence, noted, "This partnership provides synergistic growth opportunities for both companies. It strengthens our manufacturing capabilities by providing us with new capacity and immediately bringing critical etch, deposition and lithography processes online, which will help accelerate the development and launch of our advanced new optical products."
