Recently, intelligent laser weed-removal robots have been undergoing field trials in Heilongjiang Province. Operating without herbicides or manual labor, these robots-equipped with laser heads, illumination lights, and high-resolution cameras-navigate the fields, efficiently identifying and eliminating weeds through AI technology. Today, such innovative applications integrating artificial intelligence with agricultural production are increasingly common. They not only address numerous challenges in traditional farming but also enhance agricultural efficiency and environmental sustainability, providing robust technological support for agricultural modernization.
The author believes AI laser weeding represents a novel approach. Compared to traditional methods like chemical herbicide spraying or labor-intensive manual removal, it avoids soil contamination and crop damage while maintaining stable operation under varying weather conditions-making it worthy of further research. According to available information, laser weeding is already in use overseas but remains an emerging precision agriculture technology in China. This technology employs high-energy laser beams to precisely target and eliminate weeds, thereby avoiding the soil and water pollution caused by chemical pesticides. It not only boosts agricultural productivity but also helps achieve a balance between agricultural production and environmental protection.
Given that AI laser weeding technology is not yet fully mature and carries relatively high usage costs, it has not been widely adopted in China at present. However, it represents the trend of agriculture moving toward precision, intelligence, and sustainability. The recently convened Central Rural Work Conference emphasized the need to strengthen research and development of key core agricultural technologies, promote the efficient application of scientific achievements, and develop new productive forces in agriculture tailored to local conditions. Though not yet widespread, AI laser weeding has opened a window into the future of agricultural development. It also reminds us that technological innovation must be grounded in the soil, with every step of exploration contributing to bridging the gap between traditional and smart agriculture.
