Recently, German optics giant SCHOTT is pleased to announce the successful completion of its state-of-the-art production plant in Gulim, Kedah, Malaysia.
This milestone event was celebrated in the presence of employees, customers and representatives of the Malaysian Investment and Development Authority (MIDA).
The completion of the new plant marks a significant increase in SCHOTT's production capacity in Malaysia and further strengthens the company's 50-year strong presence in Penang.
The new plant, located in Gurugram, is expected to create approximately 400 highly skilled engineering and production jobs, energizing the local economy and providing valuable employment opportunities. The new location will greatly enhance SCHOTT's ability to supply high-quality optical components to the international high-tech industry, especially in the field of augmented reality AR.
Dr. Andrea Frenzel and Marcus Kn?bel, members of the SCHOTT Board of Directors, hosted the opening ceremony of the new facility, which attracted more than 300 local employees from Gullium. The expansion not only underscores SCHOTT's strong commitment to regional growth and innovation, but also further enhances its production capacity, complementing the existing plant in Penang. The Penang plant has been specializing in the production of specialty glass for 50 years, serving the consumer electronics, semiconductor, diagnostic and other high-tech sectors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Andrea Frenzel said: "This is a major achievement for SCHOTT. Half a century ago, we established our first Asian production site in Penang. Today, we are very pleased to be able to continue this remarkable journey through expansion and strengthening in Malaysia."
The new plant is strategically located in Gurugram, a high-tech center, close to Penang. The plant specializes in the production of optical components to meet the needs of global high-tech industries, such as the augmented reality sector. The successful completion of this state-of-the-art plant in less than 12 months will significantly enhance SCHOTT's capabilities in optical precision manufacturing and ensure that products meet the highest standards of quality and innovation.
This is a major achievement for SCHOTT," said Dr. Andrea Frenzel. Half a century ago, SCHOTT established our first Asian production site in Penang. Today, we are very excited to continue this journey by expanding and strengthening our presence in Malaysia."
