Cailabs And Precitec Collaborate On Laser Welding Solutions For Electric Vehicles

Cailabs, a laser beam shaping company, recently announced that the company is partnering with Precitec, a 3D metrology and laser technology company, to create innovative solutions for the electric vehicle market.
Under the partnership agreement signed by the two companies, Cailabs will provide its unique Multi-Plane Light Conversion (MPLC) beam shaping module, which will be seamlessly integrated into Precitec's laser beam welding heads. This integrated solution has been specifically designed to address the growing needs of the e-mobility market and will bring unprecedented precision and efficiency to laser welding.
The two companies are said to have been working together since 2018 as part of the Horizon 2020 program "Custodian".
Just at the end of last year, Cailabs successfully launched the CANUNDA-HP Top Hat Shaper, a product designed for high-power surface treatment that produces a homogeneous and well-defined rectangular beam profile, ideal for composite fiber shaping processes.
The primary goal of Cailabs' beam shaping technology is to address the challenges encountered in the laser welding process for electric vehicles, especially when it comes to reflective and thermally conductive materials such as copper and aluminum. By optimizing the laser interaction with these materials, the technology ensures maximum energy absorption and significantly improves weld quality.
The integration of its technological solution with Precitec's laser welding heads not only overcomes the limitations of conventional welding methods, but also opens up new possibilities in the field of advanced manufacturing.
Klaus Loffler, Managing Director of Precitec, spoke highly of the collaboration: "The integration of Cailabs' beam shaping technology into our welding systems revolutionizes the precision and efficiency of laser welding for global electric vehicle manufacturers."
