2 Laser Companies Suffered U.S. Sanctions

Local time on June 12, the U.S. Department of State and the Ministry of Finance issued a separate announcement, to Russia for the reason of more than 300 individuals and entities to implement sanctions, including 41 Chinese enterprises (the Ministry of Finance sanctioned 33, the State Department 8).
Among them, Gker Laser and SHANDONG OREE LASER were included in the SDN list.
The official statement of the U.S. Department of the Treasury noted that China-based Gker Laser has shipped hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of products, including laser diodes, optical fibers and lasers, to the sanctioned Russian entities.
According to a public information search, Gker Laser is a specialist focused on fiber optics and fiber optic component products for fiber lasers, fiber amplifiers, telecommunications and fiber optic sensors.
Gker Laser's products cover fiber gratings, fiber optic couplers, fiber optic isolators, wavelength division multiplexers, filters, fiber optic circulators, fiber optic collimators, delay lines, cladding power strippers, in-line polarizers, PBS/PBCs, patch cords, QBH cables, InGaAs PDs, modulators, active optical fibers, and ancillary fibers.
In addition, Jinan Kewei sent hundreds of high-priority HS-coded shipments to Russia, including electronic integrated circuits, tantalum capacitors and multilayer ceramic capacitors.
Finally, the listed company, Shandong Orient Laser Technology Co Ltd, was founded on June 28, 2017, with a registered capital of RMB 10 million, and its main products include laser cutting equipment, laser welding equipment, laser cleaning equipment and so on. Currently, it has operations in more than 150 countries and regions around the world and has set up hundreds of sales and service networks.
In terms of other non-Chinese laser suppliers, the document also notes that Russia-based Leningrad Laser Systems (LLS) is involved in the supply, integration and development of innovative solutions in the field of lasers and fiber optics in Russia.LLS and US-designated Russian laser products manufacturer Lassard are US-designated contractors for the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF) Laser Physics Institute. The VNIIEF conducts experimental testing of Russian nuclear weapons. lassard is an industrial company that provides full-cycle manufacturing of laser technology and optical equipment with potential for military and weapons applications. Russia-based Cryotrade Engineering, on the other hand, is a supplier of cryogenic equipment, cryogenic instrumentation, and analytical equipment.LLS and Cryotrade Engineering previously contracted with the U.S.-designated L.D. Landau Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a research center for quantum computing.
