The Application of Laser Welding Process in The Automotive Industry

Laser welding has the advantages of high accuracy, clean environment, various types of processed materials and high efficiency, and is widely used in high-end precision manufacturing fields such as the automotive industry. Today, we will introduce the application of laser welding process in the automotive industry.
The application of laser welding in the automotive industry includes three main types of manufacturing processes: laser assembly welding of body assemblies and sub-assemblies, laser assembly welding of unequal thickness plates, and laser welding of automotive parts.


Laser welding of body is mainly divided into assembly welding, welding of side circumference and top cover, and follow-up welding. The use of laser welding in the automotive industry can on the one hand reduce the weight of the car, improve the mobility of the car, and at the same time reduce fuel consumption; on the other hand, improve the quality and technical advancement of the product.
Laser assembly welding is in the body design and manufacturing, according to the different design and performance requirements of the body, different thickness, different materials, different or the same performance of the plate through the laser cutting and assembly technology connected into a whole, and then by stamping and forming for a body part. At present, laser assembled welding plate has been widely used in various parts of auto body, such as luggage box reinforcement plate, luggage box inner plate, shock absorber support, rear wheel cover, side circumference inner plate, door inner plate, front floor, front longitudinal beam, bumper, cross beam, wheel cover, B-pillar connector, center column, etc.
Laser welding of automotive parts has the advantages of almost no deformation of the welded parts, fast welding speed, and no post-weld heat treatment. At present, laser welding is widely used in the manufacture of transmission gears, valve tappets, door hinges, drive shafts, steering shafts, engine exhaust pipes, clutches, supercharger axles and chassis and other automotive parts.
