Laser Welding Machine Cooling & Cleaning System: Core Principles, Maintenance Guidelines, and Troubleshooting

1. Core Functions and Working Principles
Laser welding machines generate significant heat during operation. The primary role of the cooling and cleaning system is to dissipate heat from the laser generator and optical lenses through circulating cooling water, maintaining the equipment at its optimal operating temperature (typically around 27-28°C). If the system experiences issues such as restricted water flow or excessively high temperatures, it will not only weaken the laser energy and degrade welding quality but may also cause the optical lenses to overheat and shatter due to excessive heat absorption.

2. Routine Maintenance and Care Standards

Water Quality and Replacement Cycle: Distilled water or deionized water must be used as the cooling medium. It is recommended to replace the water in the tank every 30 days to keep the focusing cavity clean and prevent scale buildup, which can impair heat dissipation and reduce laser energy.

Filter Cartridge Replacement: Regularly inspect the filter cartridge. If it turns yellow or black, indicating a high level of impurities, it should be replaced promptly (the maximum replacement cycle should not exceed 2 months).

Dust Filter Cleaning: Clean the equipment's dust filter every 15 days using compressed air or tap water to ensure proper ventilation at the water tank's air outlet.

Pipeline Cleaning: Perform a thorough cleaning of the cooling pipelines every quarter to prevent the accumulation of internal scale.

3. Seasonal Protection (Especially in Winter)

Anti-freeze Measures: During winter or in low-temperature environments, the chiller temperature must be maintained above 0°C. If this cannot be guaranteed, keep the chiller powered on to maintain water circulation, or completely drain the water from the tank and pipelines during extended holiday shutdowns to prevent pipes from bursting due to freezing.

Handling Low-Temperature Alarms: If the chiller triggers a low-temperature alarm due to cold weather, allow the chiller to run for a while after powering it on, or add an appropriate amount of warm water to the tank. Additionally, ensure the ambient temperature of the equipment's location is maintained above 12°C.

4. Troubleshooting Common Issues

No Response on Startup / Under-voltage Alarm: First, check if the water circuit is functioning normally (whether the tank is alarming and if there is water flow). Next, inspect whether the electrode clamps at both ends of the xenon lamp are loose.

Sudden Drop in Welding Energy: Besides checking the focusing and protective lenses, pay special attention to whether the water tank temperature is too high. Open the optical path dust cover to check for condensation or water droplets at both ends of the laser cavity and laser rod. If found, gently wipe them with a clean cotton swab.

Water Leakage and Shutdown: If water is leaking from both ends of the laser rod while the tank is operating, it is usually caused by damaged sealing rings. Stop the machine immediately and contact professional maintenance personnel.

5. Safety Operation Bottom Lines

The equipment operates at high voltage. Non-professionals must never attempt to repair or inspect the cooling system while the machine is powered on to avoid electric shock.

Before a prolonged shutdown (exceeding 7 days), it is recommended to let the cooling system continue running for 5 minutes before turning off the main power supply. This ensures adequate heat dissipation and allows residual water to be drained.
