◆ There are many dimensions to measure the performance of lasers, which can be divided into optical, electronic, thermal and environmental adaptability, etc. Among the existing industrial laser categories, MOPA nanosecond pulse fiber laser has the highest degree of controlling freedom and the widest process applicability.
◆ Optical metrics are the ones we most often focus on, such as power, which includes average power and peak power, as well as short and long term power stability. For MOPA laser, power reduction frequency is an important parameter, and its meaning is shown in Fig. 1. For a particular pulse width, the average power of the laser cannot reach the maximum rated power when the laser pulse repetition frequency is lower than the power drop frequency point.
◆ For the laser: average power=single pulse energy × repetition frequency.
◆ The maximum single pulse energy can be calculated according to the reduced power frequency points of different pulse widths and the average power of the machine in the laser parameter table. In general, the maximum monopulse energy corresponding to MOPA pulse laser refers to the parameters under the condition of long pulse width (greater than 250ns). When the pulse width is short, the maximum monopulse energy will be smaller, and the corresponding power reduction frequency point will be larger. The maximum energy of different pulse width is actually limited by the peak power in the laser. Sometimes the limitation of fiber armoring length is also due to the constraint of peak power.
